2 or 3-ply kraft paper is separated allowing air to be trapped inside the layers. Inside the converter, the paper layers are crimped together to form a cushioning pad. The converter rests in an adjustable stand that can rotate the converter from vertical to horizontal positions in 15-degree increments.
